650sx problems

had my 89 kawi 650sx out for 2 weeks and the last day it started having problems.. Wouldnt start and when i finally got it home turned out my compression was way out of wack. Rear cylinder had 30, and front had 150. Took the head off and looked like water was in the cylinder. Also looked as if something was bonking around the top of the piston. Havnt taken the whole cylinder head off yet but could it be a cracked piston ring doing this? Head gasket looked brand new. Also had no spark in that cylinder when i checked it to begin with... fixed that and engine still ran before i checked compression. eeekk Ideas?

took the cylinders off found a cracked piston with damage to the top of it also and damage to the dome of my cylinder head. Havnt taken the crank case apart yet but it looks like something down there has been bounceing around. :S Rings still looked good. Not cracked. Worth it rebuild it or start looking for another motor?

Sorry to hear it dude. I had something similar and you are looking at $1500+ (depending on bottom end damage) for a rebuilt motor. You may want to start looking around for a donor ski to help keep the price down.

How far have you taken it apart now? Is there any crank damage? I found a motor on craigslist for $550 in the states. 190lbs compression in both holes. Search the seattle listings, boats, kawasaki. Includes the stator plate, that's worth $500 alone.
