i think it cost me 150$ to rebuild my kawasaki engine when it blew up, but my grandpa used to work with the guy that did it so it would probably be a couple hundred more
not 100% sure on how much i paid though
maybe this will help?

To rebuild the top end complete (pistons, bore, gaskets, etc) with labour you'll probably be around $800
If you're going into the bottom as well it'll probably be around $1400 or so.
If you go to a dealer you'll be a good $400 ~ $600 more.

I know, the cheapest pistons around are still around CAN$80 each. And then there's gaskets, bearings, and time.

how is it a rip?
just because it's an old engine doesn't mean the parts and labour come any cheaper.
you are looking at the value of current and newer items to be placed in a ski with less value. i am sure you wouldn't balk at paying $1400 to have a $15000 RXP engine repaired.
