Volunteers from multiple firefighting agencies in Washington County will man a new summer weekend water safety program bankrolled and operated through a grant to the Gaston Rural Fire District.

The district recently received a grant of $15,000 from the Dal L. Baker Charitable Lead Annuity Trust to purchase two jet skis for the summer program at Henry Hagg Lake. The Washington County Sheriff's Office will direct the district in running the program.

The program will take place from July through September with personnel from Gaston, Forest Grove Fire and Rescue, Washington County Fire District No. 2, Banks Fire District, Cornelius Fire and Rescue and the Hillsboro Fire Department.
