CAPE TOWN A kite-surfer escaped possible drowning after he was blown out to sea at Bloubergstrand in Cape Town on Thursday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
Andries Fourie had been blown out 1.5 nautical miles into the sea before an on-looker used his jetski to save him, NSRI spokesman Craig Lambinon said.
Fourie was blown out to sea when a light breeze changed direction.
He told rescuers that he was reluctant to let go of his kite to paddle back to shore and that was why he did not attempt to swim back after noticing how far in he was.
