Default 1998 Seadoo GTX RFI - Sucks weeds?

    Hi,
I have a 1998 SeaDoo GTX RFI that runs great except it always seems to suck weeds so far into the machine that the weeds restrict water flow into the exhaust, the exhaust gets hot and melts some components, I always jump off the machine as soon as I think/feel there might be weeds but it doesn't seem to help...this is a big pain and frustrating because there are many other sea doo models on my lake(and in the bay where my cottage is) and they don't seem to have this problem..I am extra careful but it doesn't seem to matter.

Does anyone know if this could be something that is common with the model of my machine ???
    Thanks,
    Tim.
